Call it country or call it blues—”All the Trouble” starts out like an old African American spiritual: “I got all the trouble I’m ever gonna need…and I just don’t want no more.” It’s a prayer whispered, a desperate plea for mercy sent out into the air of darkness welcoming an acoustic guitar intro, sliding sweetly into the first verse. This is a story everyone can relate to—just like any good, country song.
Lee Ann’s voice—a soulful, country moan—begs you to listen closely as she brings her point home. The not so subtle background echoes, making you feel the sting of the East Texas “drops of rain”. Recorded at Sugar Hill Studios in Houston this track brings back a Texas twang that’s been sorely missed since Womack’s last album, released three years ago and last charted country single in 2009.
Timing is indeed everything, though, and lines like “if you got some good news, give me a chance, if you got some good love just put it in my hand” is certainly a sentiment the country and the world could use today, in the midst of all the current turmoil and strife. We surely have got “All the Trouble” we’re ever gonna need. Thanks to Lee Ann for belting out a heartfelt reminder full of soul.
